Explores the increasing globalization of the African Diaspora through the presentation of African-born artists who now live and work in the West – France, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal and the United States of America. More>

Heritage Education Center Opens at MoAD

Wednesday, June 14

The Heritage Center is a drop-in education facility on the third floor of the museum where visitors can explore the African Diaspora further. Volunteers assist visitors at computer stations before or after viewing museum exhibitions. The Heritage Center extends the visitor experience by offering further exploration of MoAD's four core themes—Origins, Movement, Adaptation and Transformation, with more extensive information about museum exhibitions, website links and interviews.

Hours: 1-4pm weekdays when the museum is open. More>

The School of Panamerican Unrest

Exhibit - June 24/25, Artist Program - June 25, 2:00pm

The Museum of the African Diaspora’s mission of connecting all people through the culture and history of the African Diaspora is explored through The School of Panamerican Unrest, an artist-led, not-for-profit public art project that seeks to generate connections between different regions of the Americas through discussions, performances, screenings, and collaborations between organizations and individuals. Tyler Stovall: “Made in France? Paris and the African American Diaspora”

The idea that African Americans are part of a broader African diaspora has become a key theme in the study of modern black life. Yet there is also a specifically African American diaspora, in which blacks from the United States have traveled both throughout the country and throughout the world in search of better opportunities. This talk will address the ways in which some key themes of diaspora first appeared among the African American expatriate community in Paris during the twentieth century." Kathleen Cleaver: Book Signing and Reception

In recognition of the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense, the Museum of the African Diaspora, in collaboration with the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts‘ Black Panther Rank and File exhibition, present Kathleen Cleaver as she signs her new book Target Zero: A Life in Writing, a collection of essays by Eldridge Cleaver, the author of Soul on Ice and former Minister of Information for the Black Panther Party.
